Freeview
Freeview television allows you to access a host of digital TV stations, using your existing television and aerial equipment. Unlike other digital television receivers there is no subscription so, once you have purchased the box, there is nothing more to pay *.
Most of Dorchester and the surrounding areas are able to receive the Freeview channels. In some areas it is still not possible but check with your local aerial contractor for a survey
You can also check the coverage on the freeview website. We do recommend to use an aerial installer for a better idea of Freeview coverage due to the fact that local knowledge seems to be more accurate than a National database.
What channels are available?
All the 5 channels that “normal analogue” TV provides are available in digital quality. In addition there are over 40 extra stations available covering a wide range of topics. There are several channels dedicated to news and politics, music, children’s entertainment and home shopping. Furthermore, BBCi is an interactive station that allows users information when they need it. For example, news and sport updates, cinema listings and even video clips are all available. Don't forget to press the RED button.
More and more channels have been added over the last year, making freeview excellent value for money. At the moment there are currently 88 Channels available on Freeview.

What other features should I look for?
Whilst some of the cheaper Freeview boxes do a perfectly acceptable job of receiving TV, there are certain features that may cost a little extra but are well worth looking out for. The first aspect to check is whether or not the unit supports the full range of channels. Some of the older designs won’t give you the entire range of new stations. Twin scart sockets mean that you can record to VCR or DVD, or other components can then be plugged in via the Freeview box. It’s also worth checking that the unit you have in mind will fit where you’d planned!
Freeview box sizes vary enormously, and some of them are able to be mounted vertically, enabling them to be fitted into the tightest of spaces. Finally, as with all components, it’s well worth investing in a good quality cable between the box and TV. A good quality scart lead will greatly benefit the clarity of both sound and picture. Scart leads start from £12.99. We at Robert J. Prowse Ltd stock Freeview boxes starting from £30.00, We stock boxes from Panasonic, Humax and Alba.
All of the LCD & Plasma televisions we stock have a freeview box built in. This is ideal if you want to keep clutter to a minimum.
This means that you wont have any extra cables or another remote control to worry about. Everything is done with the television remote control.
